SEO Content Ideas: Mix Keywords with Desire

October 30, 2009 - Creating quality, relevant SEO content for your legal practice can be a little tricky. Sometimes it's difficult to think of topics to write about or how exactly to approach those topics.

That is part of the reason why SEO keywords are important. When you can identify the keywords that are aimed at your target audience, you can begin to understand what people are searching for online. This however, is only half the equation. After you have identified the keywords that audience has searched for you need to determine how those keywords and phrases relate to content and what type of the information people are seeking in conjunction with those terms.

For example, if "car accident injuries" received 3 million hits last month, what information about car accident injuries are people searching for? Are they looking for information about common injuries? Treatments for common injuries? How to sue someone for neglect after sustaining car accident injuries? You can look at similarly popular keywords to try to determine the overall search intention (at least generally), but looking at a keyword or phrase from this perspective is imperative in creating the type of content that people are looking for that happens to incorporate that term effectively.

In some situations this is easier said than done, and it is never a bad idea to write several articles around a popular keyword or phrase that dissects the topic from a variety of angles. You can then track the popularity of those articles through Google Analytics or any other tracking program and determine which articles are getting the most traffic, page views, reading times, etc. and use that information as research to determine what topics to focus on in the future and which to skip over.

Web Content Tips: Know Your Audience

October 13, 2009
- Great SEO content isn't just pulled out of a hat. It needs to be planned, researched, and tracked in order to really help a website grow and thrive. Part of this equation is knowing who you are writing for. Just like a single lawyer can't possibly specialize in every type of law in existence, web content also needs to be focused on a niche and written for a particular audience.

Part of identifying your target audience includes taking into account your specific practice areas, your geographic region, your existing clients, and if you are trying to broaden your practice to a new demographic or continue to focus your efforts in the course you have already set out for yourself.

Then you need to start asking yourself a few important questions:
  • Who is your ideal client?
  • What are those people looking for in a lawyer in your field?
  • What information (web content) is that group looking for online?
  • How is your local competition marketing to this group and how can you do it better?
  • What sets your practice apart from competing firms in your practice area and region?

After setting your goals and identifying your target audience, you can begin to plan your SEO web content, research your keywords, and update your web design accordingly.

SEO Keyword Strategies

Search engine optimized content is designed to attract positive attention from search engines through the use of researched and strategically placed SEO keywords. In order to get the most value out of those keywords, it's important to first understand what they are, how to identify them, and where to place them in your SEO content.

Web Content Development: Keep Your Visitor's Goals in Mind

Deciding what SEO content to include on your website should be based on research and thoughtful consideration. The good news is that since search engines love and expect a constant influx of fresh content, you'll always have the opportunity to add specific topics to your content library. The best strategy to begin thinking about topics to cover in your SEO content however, is even simpler, just start putting yourself in your visitor's shoes.

Are You Making the Most of Your SEO?

August 27, 2009 - Search Engine Watch published a great article about common SEO mistakes that pertain to a variety of businesses, including ecommerce as well as service-based online businesses.

The advice is great because it covers a variety of back-end SEO and SEO content issues that all companies with an online presence need to deal with during the creation or maintenance of their website. It's always important to remember that having a search engine optimized website is imperative in making the most out of your SEO content and vice versa.

Some of the common SEO mistakes we highly agree with include:

*steering clear of thin-content pages that aren't doing enough to enhance your website
*selecting poor anchor text such as "click here" instead of SEO keywords
*making sure your website does not contain duplicate content, which means content that appears on more than one website, or content that appears on multiple pages of your website

When developing an online marketing strategy it is important that you select a company that has Internet marketing experience, which includes copy writing, SEO services, and website promotion. We Do Web Content specializes in affordable SEO writing that will get your website a top search engine ranking. We combine organic SEO tools with web marketing know-how to increase the search engine placement and SEO ranking of your Web pages. SEO Content: If You Can't Find It, Write It

August 18, 2009 - Coming up with new topics to write about to add to your website's SEO content can take longer than writing the content itself! It is good to remember though that there are almost always areas of your content that could use some sprucing up with SEO keywords, updates to reflect current changes in the industry, or to fill a void for info that just isn't there.

If you are searching the Internet for references to help you address a particular subject and can't find anything relevant (or well written), that is a perfect opportunity for you to step up and provide that information on your website. This could be as simple as providing an easy to understand explanation of a complicated or industry-specific term/process or even a short blog that goes into more specific detail than currently exists elsewhere.

Taking a good long look at your website, as well as the websites of your competitors can help you figure out what is missing and give you the inspiration you need to roll up your sleeves and get to writing.

Having search engine optimized copy makes it easy for search engines to find your Web pages. If your website doesn't have the top search engine ranking on Google, We Do Web Content can help boost your web marketing goals. SEO Content and the 3 Bears Syndrome

July 16, 2009 - When we work with clients about developing their organic SEO content, the first step is to always analyze their current website to see what they like, what they don't like, what's missing, and what can be done better.

This is usually where we discover what I have dubbed the Three Bears Syndrome. Almost without fail there will be some web pages with way too much information that requires readers to scroll through thousands of words and long bulky paragraphs that no one will ever get through -- even if the actual content is relevant and interesting. And then there will be other web pages with almost no content on them, just sitting there not doing anything. Is this starting to sound like a familiar fairy tale yet?

The Third Bear = Balance

What every website is ideally looking for is balance. You want your website to be the baby bear, the one who gets it just right by creating web pages that don't contain 20,000 words of SEO content dragging your reader down the page for what feels like eternity, but you also don't want wasted pages that contain hardly any SEO and aren't helping to develop the SEO content of your website.

The only cure for the Three Bear Syndrome is to take a good long look at each web page on your website individually and decide if the length, content, SEO keywords, design, and navigation are too much, not enough, or just right.

If you're not sure whether your web pages are working for you or against you, contact We Do Web Content today and ask for a free website consultation.

Keep Up With Your SEO Keywords

SEO keywords are the terms and phrases that turn great Web content into great SEO web content that can be easily found by search engines and finally by your target audience. Before you begin an SEO content plan, it's important to identify those keywords and phrases, but since search engines are in the constant state of flux, so are your keywords. That means if you want to keep seeing your SEO content return great results, you'll need to check in on those keywords on a routine basis.

Google Caffeine Set to Launch

November 10, 2009 - The great Google Caffeine rollout, an event promised to take place over the last few months, is finally set to leave the sandbox and start infiltrating your search engine results.

Google CaffeineFor those of you unfamiliar with this major change, Google Caffeine is the new Google index with an adjusted algorithm, that will change the way the search engine giants filters its search results. The program has been in a preview sandbox for the last few months so website developers and curious techies could see how their websites would appear on the new Google platform.

Some websites will receive better search engine results and some will do worse, that's just the nature of a changing index. Since Google loves to keep webmasters guessing as to the specifics of their criteria, we don't know exactly what info is shifting importance or to what extent. For now at least, the best SEO advice is to continue producing quality, relevant content that incorporates your most valued keywords and phrases.

Google Caffeine will be rolled out in phases to various data centers over the next few months until the whole index is universally live, or until enough people complain and Google sends it back to the drawing board. So don't worry if you don't see those new results for quite awhile.

Have you tested Google Caffeine? If so, leave a comment and let us know what you think!

Short vs Long Tail Keywords

September 24, 2009 - Search engine optimizing the content for your website includes paying special attention to your most coveted keywords. While the keywords that are right for your company will depend on a lot of different factors, including your products/services, location, competition, etc., you need to take into account not only the most basic terms but the long-tail keywords that could do the most good.

While words like "lawyer", "bicycles", and "purses" might receive millions of hits each month, striving for those insanely hard to get keywords might not be the best strategy. Instead try to focus a lot of your efforts on more specific long tail keywords such as "Massachusetts dog bite injury lawyer", "bicycles for rent in Nashville, Tennessee", or "Designer handbags outlet in Orlando", can get you higher page rankings faster, but also help your potential local clients easily locate your services.

SEO Keywords and Keyword Meta Tags

September 21, 2009 - Google finally launched a formal statement on the importance (or lack thereof) of the keywords Meta tag. As a service to our fans who aren't webmasters, we thought we'd take the opportunity to explain the difference between SEO keywords and the keywords Meta tag.

SEO keywords are the terms you insert organically into your website's original content that helps Internet users find your website through the web pages that contain the relevant search engine terms they are looking for. If you were a lawyer, some of your SEO keywords might include terms like "personal injury lawyer", "medical malpractice attorney" and the like infused with your geographical targets.

This is not to be confused with the keywords Meta tag, which is a separate entry field in your content management system that allows you to separately list the keywords you would like the search engine crawlers to pay special attention to. Google, and other search engines, do not currently look at the terms listed in the keywords Meta tag to help determine your web page's search engine ranking.

Listing keywords in that area does not technically hurt your website, and if at some point in the future, search crawlers do start looking at those particular Meta tags, you'll be all set, but for now they do not affect your search engine placement. Now, Google does however pay very close attention to other Meta tags, including page titles and other tags that give search crawlers directions about where to scan.

So in short: keywords are good and necessary for search engine optimization. The keywords Meta tag does not affect your web page ranking, however other Meta tags certainly do.

SEO Keywords: More Than Just a Guessing Game

August 24, 2009 - When we work with new clients at We Do Web Content, we always talk to them about their SEO keywords, if they have any already identified, what they want to focus on, and then we do a keyword analysis of our own to determine the best fit for each company's SEO content, based on their business and needs.

Sometimes, the keywords clients give us are great, others aren't actually keywords... but try telling them that. On more than one occassion a client will give us a keyword they want to focus on. Through our own research, we'll sometimes find that not only is that keyword not highly searched, but it isn't even a real term, so the idea of someone eventually searching for it are slim to none. And of course we're not talking about the name of a new product or brand that of course wouldn't be highly searched for until it is introduced (at least), but descriptive phrases that if they were reworded into actual existing phrases, would yield search engine results.

And amazingly sometimes, even when we tell our clients those terms don't exist in the English vernacular and no one is searching for them, they insist that they are used. All I can say to this is that companies should focus on SEO keywords that strengthen their SEO efforts, not bog them down by telling search spiders to pay special attention to non-existent goobeldy-goo that no one has or will ever search for.

SEO keywords need to be well thought out and chosen with a purpose. They are there to bring your SEO content into the limelight. Think about what keywords will target your ideal audience, what phrasings will be relevant to both your business and what potential customers are searching for. Don't get too hung up on coining silly phrases that will never overtake a better, more widely recognized term.

Having search engine optimized copy makes it easy for search engines to find your Web pages. If your website doesn't have the top search engine ranking on Google, We Do Web Content can help boost your web marketing goals. Why Hyperlinks Help Your Website

August 11, 2009 - We've had a lot of conversations with new and potential clients about how the SEO content services at We Do Web Content can help websites get better page rankings and lead to more conversions through great informative web content, SEO keywords, and linking strategies.

Often times, when we mention how important it is for SEO content to link to other websites, there is a pause and then a quick, "well...we don't want our customers to leave our website," reply. There are a lot of reasons to include hyperlinks in your SEO content, and if it is done correctly, customers will stay on your website LONGER.

Hyperlinks Should Work For You, Not Against You

Hyperlinks exist to help readers fully understand your SEO content. There may be terms they are unfamiliar with that a simple link to Wikipedia or WebMD or a legal dictionary can fix. If you don't provide EASY access to this information from your website, they will leave it and continue the research on their own elsewhere. When you provide a hyperlink that opens in a second window or tab, the reader stays on your website, gets the quick info they need and then returns to your article.

Hyperlinks help build page rankings
and affect your search engine results by adding the quality of those links to the overall quality rating of your SEO content. Without any links, you are losing out on opportunities that can help increase your search engine rankings.

Hyperlinks should be always be helpful. Sometimes I think when people hear the word "link" they are under the impression that the links will lead to competitor's websites and cause them to lose business. If that was the case, that might be true, but I don't know of any company that uses hyperlinks in their SEO content to link to competing websites.

Hyperlinks are great for explaining complicated terms that would be too lengthy to spell out in an article, and direct readers to additional resources (including the home pages of organizations within that field) i.e. - a website for an auto body shop might have a link to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in an article about car accidents. This is not a competing website but provides great information for that reader about car safety.

Don't be afraid of links. When hyperlinks are well thought out, relevant to your SEO content, and not leading readers to competitve or spam websites, they are great boosts for your web pages.

Are Your Making the Most of Your SEO Keywords?

August 7, 2009 - SEO content relies heavily on use of relevant SEO keywords that help drive traffic to your website through organic search engine results. It's important for any business to identify and successfully implement the keywords that will help customers locate their products and services online, both locally (if the business has a brick and mortar location or is limited to any given area) and on a broad scale to attract potential customers from across the Internet.

After you have identified the SEO keywords that best match your business, the next step is to incorporate them into the content that makes up your website, including:

  • articles
  • landing pages
  • home page
  • FAQs
  • blogs
  • product and service descriptions
  • and so on

It's also important however, to include your keywords outside of your website. Many businesses overlook the importance of using their keywords in social media profiles or other online public forums that exist outside of their main website. Remember, posts on social media networks like Facebook and Twitter will appear in search engine results if the relevant keywords are there, so make the most of all your content -- put your SEO keywords where they count (everywhere!).

Just remember, keyword density (the amount of times a keyword appears in a single piece of content) is a major factor in the overall success of your SEO content. Use your keywords too often and they seem like spam to search engines, don't use them enough and your results show up too far down the search results page. Aim for a keyword density that sees your keyword appear about once every hundred words or so and try not to bunch several keywords together with commas separating them (they also look like spam to search engines).

Having search engine optimized copy makes it easy for search engines to find your Web pages. If your website doesn't have the top search engine ranking on Google, We Do Web Content can help boost your web marketing goals. Are Your Landing Pages Relevant?

July 20, 2009
- When you are looking through the bounce rates and overall conversions for your website. It's best to take a good, long look at the landing pages you are directing people to.

In the world of search, a lot of people will be finding your website through links and SEO keywords that send them to landing pages that are not your homepage. It's important that these landing pages give the kind of great first impression you want your homepage to reflect. In addition to great Web design and easy navigation, you need to make sure your landing page's SEO content is doing what it needs to do to increase your conversion rates.

A common mistake is creating vague, fluffed landing pages that do not contain any of the real info Internet searchers are looking for. If a person is searching for information about car accident attorneys and you send them to a landing page that only generally discusses personal injury, your reader is going to lose interest and look for that specific information elsewhere.

Try to create landing pages that contain specific, relevant SEO content that directly relates to the keywords that generated those interests in the first place. Tricking someone into visiting your website is no way to attract new customers. People will be clicking the back button way before getting anywhere near your call to action.

Having search engine optimized copy makes it easy for search engines to find your Web pages. Is Crowdsourcing Good for SEO?

July 14, 2009 - The idea of "crowdsourcing", the act of letting large groups of users perform a task that is usually reserved for a single agent of group, is getting a lack of traction lately. When it comes to social media, crowdsourcing can help online marketers spread word-of-mouth advertising or generate new marketing ideas (through polls, surveys, etc.), but while crowdsourcing has some great merits - community involvement, corporate interaction with customers, free input, etc. is there a limit to what crowdsourcing should be used for?

Search Engine Watch released an article about how crowdsourcing projects like translation (Linkedin polled for translation volunteers recently) could affect the SEO keywords for a website. When it comes to SEO content in general, strategy is key. Analyzing, deciding on, and implementing SEO keywords and long-tail phrases that will benefit your website is something that needs to be a conscious act.

While crowdsourcing can be a great indicator of where your SEO content needs to go and perhaps what kind of content your readers would find enjoyable, it may not be the project you want to leave in the hands of unexperienced volunteers, the costs may prove too costly in the long run.

When does crowdsourcing go from helpful to inhibiting? Leave a comment and tell us what you think!
