August 26, 2011 - A month ago yesterday we began a marketing campaign to gain new fans on our Facebook page. All a user had to do was “like” our page and for every 50 new fans, we purchased a backpack and loaded it up with school supplies.
This came about when we found a news story about a local firefighter collecting donations of supplies for our Kids in Distress foster care program. It was a win-win situation: we got more fans (and therefore more Facebook exposure, as we discussed in this week’s blog series) and we got to help some kids have a great return to school this year!
Our grand total as of August 25th was 527 “likes” which was just short of doubling our fanbase in a month! Even though that number technically equated to 5 backpacks, we had already pre-celebrated the campaign’s success and purchased 7 total (we couldn’t pass up a little pizzaz with a Cars and Disney Princess themed backpack), So this past week, Co-founder Yvette and Sales Manager Alex headed over to the local fire station to drop off our donations:
