Federal laws, particularly the Civil Rights Act of 1964, prohibit specific types of employment discrimination, including racial discrimination. Even so, thousands of racial discrimination cases are reported each year in the United States. A look at some recent headlines about racial discrimination lawsuits demonstrates the continuing issue of race in the workplace.
Here are a few recent racial discrimination lawsuits:
Frank L. Haskins III filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against Corporate Express Office Products, Inc., for violating federal law in how it handled his promotion and salary. The black account manager and the EEOC have filed a lawsuit against the company and have said that the company failed to pay Haskins a fair and equal salary to those of his white colleagues. Haskins believes he was the victim of racial discrimination and has since left the company to pursue work with another employer.
