St. Louis Cardinals manager sues Twitter

The manager of the St. Louis Cardinals is suing Twitter after an account bearing his name was created and operated by an unknown user. Tony LaRussa filed a lawsuit in May against the San Francisco-based social networking site in the Superior Court of California.

The account bearing LaRussa's name made several references to drunk driving and the deaths of Cardinals players - two issues that are no doubt offensive to LaRussa who has managed the Cardinals since 1996, and recently plead guilty to a charge of driving under the influence.

The lawsuit claims that the short messages (known as Tweets) on the public account bearing his name damaged his reputation, trademark rights, and caused emotional distress due to the "derogatory and demeaning" comments.

The account was still operational as recently as April 19, when a post was published, but it has since been removed.
