Set a Timetable.

There are many programs on the computer, including one at the Knot.com that can help you develop a timetable for the wedding planning.

Envision the Style

Figure out what kind of style you want for your wedding; i.e. elegant, simplistic, traditional, romantic, new age, etc.

Set Your Wedding Budget

Find out how much your parents are contributing, if anything, and add up the resources you have for planning a wedding and set your budget. Knowing the figure in advance helps if you are going to have to have a budget wedding.

Determine a Date

Select your date and a back-up date in case the locations you wish to have the wedding and wedding reception are not available. This is especially important for a summer wedding.

Announce Your Engagement

Some people announce their engagement at a party, while others simply post it in the local newspaper.

Choose Your Attendants

You and your groom will need to choose the Maid of Honor and Best Man and any other attendants you will want at your wedding.

Make a Guest List

Make your guest list with must haves, really would like to have attends, and if space is available we will invite.

Consider a Consultant

If you have the funds available, hire a wedding planner/consultant. They will take all the pressure off of you and keep track of all the details.

Start Gown Shopping

For some brides, it takes quite a while to find the gown they want at the price they can afford. Other brides find the perfect dress right away. Starting early though gives you more time to find that once in a lifetime wedding gown.

With all of these tips, you should be able to stay sane while planning your wedding and have some fun while you are doing it.
