The bottom line is clear: finding affordable health insurance is becoming increasingly more difficult. As a result, the number of people who are covered by a health insurance policy is dwindling, which means you will be hard-pressed to find anyone who would deny that there is a need to reform health care in the United States. Nonetheless, critics of Obama's health care plan believe it will only increase the federal deficit while doing little to help reduce health care costs.
Doubts Regarding the Obama Health Plan Emerge
Although the House Ways and Means Committee agreed to raise the taxes needed to pay for the Obama health care reform plan, Congress' independent budget analyst has reported that the health care reform plan will do little to control the rising health care costs. Furthermore, Congressional Budget Officer chief Douglas Elmendorf has publicly stated that the health care plan will increase federal health care spending "to a significant degree," but will do little to help reduce costs.
Regardless of the controversy that U.S. health care reform has caused in the White House, President Obama is still pushing to get the legislation passed before Congress recesses in August. Whether he will reach this goal remains to be seen.
