Popular Vampire Movies (Part B)

An early favorite is an Interview with the Vampire, which is based on the book written by Anne Rice. The film version was released in 1994, starring Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst, Antonio Banderas, Christian Slater and Tom Cruise. The film's worldwide gross was $223,564,608.

Bram Stoker's Dracula, was released in 1992, and featured Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Gary Oldman, and Anthony Hopkins. It grossed $215,862,692.

Blade, with Wesley Snipes, released in 1998, grossed $131,237,688. Blade 2, released in 2002, earned $154,338,601, and Blade: Trinity, released in 2004, brought in $132,397,389. The total for all three movies is $417,973,678.

Recent Vampire Movies

More recent vampire movies are Twilight, written by Stephenie Meyer, and I am Legend.

Twilight, starring Kristen Stewart, Nikki Reed, and Robert Pattinson, was released Nov. 21, 2008 and brought in a worldwide gross of $382,511,081. In a review by Marc Malkin for E!Online, the critic says he has never seen or heard anything like this at a premiere: "Outside the Twilight world premiere in Los Angeles, there are thousands of fans-they're on every corner in the middle of Westwood Village-and they are loud."

I am Legend starred Will Smith and Alice Braga. Released Dec. 14, 2007, the film has a worldwide gross of $585,055,701.

Twilight's sequel is New Moon, which was also written by Stephenie Meyer. The movie is slated for release on Nov. 20, 2009; just in time for the holiday season. No doubt that this second installment of the Twilight series will be just as popular as the first.

The fascination with vampires remains strong and it's doubtful that we will be seeing a reduction in the number of vampire movies anytime soon.
