America Grows Up with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

By  |  Published

The new Harry Potter movie is based on the JK Rowling book Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Part of the American coming-of-age film tradition, Harry Potter movies recall heroes such as Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird or Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. The July 2009 Harry Potter movie demonstrates the appeal of youthful protagonists to viewers young and old.

Harry’s dilemma revolves around who and what he can trust. Learning when to rely on grown-ups and when to strike out alone is something that all adolescents must learn. Viewers can grow up with Harry Potter in the space of 153 minutes by watching the new Warner Bros. release.
