August 27, 2009 – An article in ReadWriteWeb has some interesting statistics concerning online marketing efforts and social networking from a survey by Burst Media. According to the report, even though baby boomers account for nearly 1/4 of all Internet users and spend at least 5 hours a week online, only 14% believe that web content is focused on their demographic. Additionally, less than 10% (9.9 to be exact) think that Internet advertising is actually targeting their age group.
With 50% of female baby boomers and 44% of male boomers on social networks, you would think online marketing experts and Internet advertisers would be able to create some targeted branded ads that speak to these eager Internet participants, but only 11.9% believe social networks that the sites are “geared to people their age.”
