Google Repositioning Hot Trends for Real Time Search

By  |  Published

September 30, 2009 – Real time search and hot trending topics continue to dominate media and business attention for content developers looking to generate leads and buzz on their websites and blogs. In order to complete with the all-powerful Twitter trending topics, Google is repositioning their “Hot Trends” to a more visible part of the search engine results page.

Also known as the OneBox, Google’s hot trends provides Meta data about how popular the search term is, when the interest peaked, and the number of websites that are creating buzz worthy content about the term. While Google Hot Trends has been around since 2007, the new OneBox will be prominently displayed near the top of the page, allowing users to gauge the relative hotness of any topic on an hourly basis. While this isn’t exactly real time data, it is as close as Google has been able to get thus far.
