September 17, 2009 – a new research study by the Online Publishers Association has revealed that Internet users are spending more time on content websites than they were just a few years ago.
The results of the study, according to Mediapost, showed that Internet users now spend 42% of their time online at content websites as opposed to 34% in 2003. The amount of time spent has also doubled since 2003, going from about 3 hours and 42 minutes to 6 hours and 58 minutes per month.
Experts believe in the increase in social networking is part of the change that has sent more people to content based websites over communication or ecommerce websites. Community website usage now accounts for about 13% of Internet users monthly web usage. Search times have also doubled from around 27 minutes to 54 minutes.
