Love Your Lawyer Day 2016 Infographic: Presidents Who Were Lawyers

Today is Love Your Lawyer Day! Nader Anise, founder of the American Lawyers Public Image Association (ALPIA), created the holiday in 2001 to recognize all that lawyers do. “Our goal is to highlight the good that lawyers do, often thanklessly,” says the ALPIA.

In recognition of Love Your Lawyer Day and in the spirit of the upcoming presidential election, we created an infographic that explores lawyers’ presence in the highest office in the land — U.S. President.

Here are some of the key takeaways:

  • More than half of U.S. presidents have been lawyers, including Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Barack Obama.
  • The longest span without a lawyer in the Oval Office was 24 years from 1945 to 1969.
  • Less than a quarter of the presidents who were lawyers had a law degree.
