July 27, 2009 – Celebrities are usually a pretty vocal bunch, at least the ones who know anything about self-promotion. So naturally, if you give celebrities any opportunity to spread their opinions and self-promotion across the Internet to millions of people, they are going to most likely jump in with both feet. While many celebrities use more than one social media network to expand their empires, others start out trying multiple networks then settle on just a few of their favorites (unless they have a staff/record label/etc. who can update all their profiles for them).
The latest news of celebs loving or hating social media comes from Martha Stewart (via Mashable) who described Facebook as “dippy” during an interview with The Daily Beast, then went onto applaud Twitter for its ease of use and wide reach:
“I just love it [Twitter] so much more than Facebook … First of all, you don’t have to spend any time on it, and, second of all, you reach a lot more people. And I don’t have to ‘befriend’ and do all that other dippy stuff that they do on Facebook.”
Apparently Bill Gates is also not the world’s greatest Facebook fan and has admitted to ending his Facebook account after being deluged with friend requests he couldn’t make heads or tails out of.
