If you or a loved one is affected by alcohol or drug abuse, there is hope. Substance abuse treatment programs can successfully assist an individual in overcoming addiction. Because so many different types of programs exist, there is a drug/alcohol treatment program to suit every individual’s needs.
Some common types of substance abuse treatment include outpatient programs, inpatient programs, partial hospitalization, detoxification, 12-Step programs, and sober houses.
There are pros and cons to each type of alcohol or drug treatment program. For example, inpatient programs and partial hospitalization are the most intense forms of treatment, but they can be costly.
If the patient needs to continue working or cannot afford inpatient care, outpatient treatment is another alternative. Outpatient treatment allows the patient to continue working and live at home while going to the treatment facility for 2 to 6 hours a week.
Twelve-Step groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, also lend support to those who must abstain from alcohol and/or drugs. These programs, which are spiritual in nature, offer “12 steps” to recovery”.
Detoxification assists the alcoholic or drug addict in safely withdrawing from alcohol and/or drugs.Detoxification can be dangerous, even deadly, and it is advised that a patient be under medical supervision when in this process.
