Website files countersuit against Facebook

Power.com, a website that allows users to log in to all of their social networking sites at one address, has filed a countersuit against Facebook. The lawsuit claims Facebook is operating in violation of California’s unfair competition laws and federal antitrust statutes.

The legal battle between the two websites started last December
when Power.com launched. Facebook immediately sent a letter of complaint to the company, suggesting that Power.com use Facebook Connect to allow users to reach their site. Power.com responded and agreed to implement the Facebook tool within a few weeks, but then asked for an extension and never made the technical adjustment.

Facebook filed a lawsuit shortly thereafter claiming that Power.com violated their copyright and trademark rights. Facebook also claims that the Power.com site fails to adequately protect their users’ privacy and security. Facebook blocked the site and says it will fight the countersuit filed last week by Power.com.
