July 9, 2009 – A new online consumer survey released by Nielsen asked 25,000 Internet users in 50 countries who’s recommendations and opinions they trust most online.
The top results aren’t terribly surprising, with 90% of the respondents saying that trust recommendations from people they know. Online marketers shouldn’t get discouraged yet though as the survey also revealed that 70% of the consumer survey participants also trust the opinions of brand websites and opinions posted by other Internet users, which seems like yet another reason for companies to start engaging with current and potential customers on social networking sites and online forums to start building that online word-of-mouth website promotion.
On the flip side, online video ads, banner ads, and mobile text ads were the least trusted advertising sources, coming in at 37%, 33%, and 24%.
