September 3, 2009 – In an effort to take on the mighty Twitter, Yahoo is launching a new microblogging service, Yahoo Meme.
The new Yahoo service will let users post content, including photos and videos along with short comments, track their posts, follow other profiles and even repost other people’s comments and entries, similar to Twitter.
According to Mediapost, early test results by Techcrunch and paidContent pointed out a lack of features that would restrict Yahoo Meme from becoming truly competitive with their social networking sites. The reviews also mentioned Yahoo’s less than stellar track record with social networks, including closing down earlier social network projects like Yahoo Mash and SpotM (in India) less than a year after launch.
